Finding fish - Rain

Most rainstorms are good news to a bass angler. Early season rains can help warm the water, and mid-summer rains can cool it down. Both cases will turn on the bite?in a hurry. Bass will congregate around vegetation, points, and areas where feeder creeks enter the lake, drawn by the increased activity of the lake's food chain. Bass will also be much less wary if rain has discolored the water.

The cloud cover of even a light rain causes bass to be more active than on a sunny day. The only time rain generally causes problems is a cold rain early in the season, when the water is warming. If a cold rainfall suddenly chills the surface, bass that are usually very active in the shallows this time of year will move to deeper water and hold tight. The fishing will probably be slow for a couple of days. Also, the bright blue skies that follow a rainstorm will usually slow down the bite.
