Hair Jigs

The hair jig is simply a jig dressed with bucktail, marabou, or other natural material rather than a rubber skirt like the rubber jig. The result is a more streamlined, silky, flowing action that is more reactive to gentle movements and currents - it almost looks like it's breathing. In addition, this material does not change its action much when water temperature drops, whereas plastic and rubber baits stiffen up quite a bit.

Many anglers prefer the hair jig for clear water, cold water, or other "finesse" situations. Hair jigs also seem to be particularly effective on smallmouth. Like rubber jigs, they can also be tipped with a pork frog, crawdad, grub, or other trailer for varied presentations.
