You can improve your chances by using a scent formula with your lure. While bass are primarily visual hunters, a scent may put an inactive fish into a feeding mood, and increase the odds of it striking a lure it sees. Once the bass strikes, a good scent and taste may make the fish hold on longer, and can give you more time to set the hook.
Many brands of plastic soft bait have fruit, salt, baitfish, or other flavors cooked right into the plastic, or come packed in scented liquids or oils. You can also apply liquid or spray scent formulas yourself to any lure.
