Soft Bait: Tube Bait

A tube bait is a hollowed-out grub variation that traps air inside its body cavity and rubbery tentacles. As it sinks, it releases these air bubbles, making noise and causing the tentacles to wiggle. Other features are its slow rate of sinking and tendency to swerve or spiral on the way down. This will often get a bass's attention when he's too finicky to strike at other lures.

The tube bait is one of the most effective "finesse" baits going, especially in the spawn and pre-spawn periods. Pitch it into brush and weed patches and under docks near spawning areas. This bait is typically fished on a light jighead rig with spinning gear. Small tubes also work well for panfish.
