Splitshot Rig

The splitshot rig is a lighter, finesse version of the Carolina rig. A round splitshot is pinched onto the line a foot or two above the lure. This rig is normally used with smaller soft baits such as grubs, small worms, and tube baits, which can be rigged weedless or with an exposed hook. It's usually fished on medium-light spinning gear and light line. This is the rig to use in clear open water or whenever bass are wary, because it's small and subtle. It's a great way to work structure on gently sloping banks and can be tuned to let the lure drop as fast or slow as you want. Very steep and vertical structures are better suited to jigs and Texas-rigged soft baits.
